The Tree
There is nothing more unspectacular than collecting water, or can there be? It's a very simple task, but here it takes nearly 45 minutes, even in what feels like real time: the man walks through the narrow roads, dog in tow, and stopping to grab glass bottles at the bright doorways, before going down into the dark river. The bottles, a trek over land and finally A queue are full of It dawn. The night was silent, save to the noise of the bottles clinking together and the pounding of the firearms in the length, that has to be why the man met no body, why what's still as a painting, like the boy sees from the window at the beginning, a village plucked from a fairy tale. Considering the lengthy tracking shots, it'd be tempting to predict this lifetime, but the light's quality is slightly off kilter, all soaked reds greens and yellows. Even the picture is lit like a stage set.
