Limite
Limite is Mário Peixoto's lone feature film, made when he was 22. Inspired by a haunting André Kertész photograph on a French magazine cover, this avant-garde silent masterpiece centers on a man and two women adrift at sea. Their pasts emerge through flashbacks propelled by Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, and others. Limite, an early independent South American film, was rare for much of the 20th century. Its visual poetry remains everlasting.
